Japanese Sansai

日本語

One thing that is interesting about living in Japan is eating all the wild plants; called sansai in Japanese. Back home, we sometimes ate wild blueberries or cherries, but we never ate wild plants and flowers.

Here in Japan, eating “sansai” is very common and many people look forward to it every spring.

Last week, I searched for yomogi with my kindergarten students. I was surprised that there were yomogi plants everywhere! This week, we made yomogi dango together. They were delicious!

Next year, I want to cook sansai at home, too.
